With over 40 years of experience in the Medical field and 8 years freelance Community Interpretation and Translation
I specialise in both Community and Public Service Interpreting using the following techniques: • Consecutive Interpreting • Simultaneous Interpreting- including whispered. • Telephone and Video Interpretation • Sight Translation- both written and verbal. Consecutive interpretation is form of verbal communication. It takes place when the person with limited English proficiency speaks, and is followed by the interpreter’s conversion of what was said to the English speaker. During these sessions, there are pauses or breaks between sentences when each party is speaking. In other words, the interpreter listens then interprets. Simultaneous interpretation is a popular method of interpreting that differs from that of consecutive interpretation. Simultaneous interpreters convert what is said in real-time. There are no pauses in conversation. This type of interpretation is suited for large-scale events and situations where a pause in conversation is not beneficial. At present 98% of my work takes the form of Consecutive Interpreting, with experiences in: • Hospitals- GP’S and Community Health • Social Services • Education • Local councils and housing • Benefit Assessments • Adult and Child Mental Health • Child Development • Insurance Companies • Police and Courts Simultaneous Interpreting at present has only been used in: • Police and Courts • Some Medical reviews
Learn MoreSight translation can be defined as the reading of a text by the interpreter from the source language into the target language, simultaneously, in a manner in which the content of the document can be easily understood by the audience, both verbally and by use of text. Presently committed to providing a gist of the text verbally or a small written document. For more complex translations I can provide you with the services of a certified translator. Pending time sight translations I usually carry out at Health and Medical reviews, and sometimes Court/Insurance companies.
Learn MoreTelephone interpreting is a service that connects human interpreters via telephone to individuals who wish to speak to each other but do not share a common language. The telephone interpreter converts the spoken language from one language to another, enabling listeners and speakers to understand each other. Interpretation over the telephone most often takes place in consecutive mode, which means that the interpreter waits until the speaker finishes an utterance before rendering the interpretation into the other language. Video remote interpreting (VRI) is a video telecommunication service that uses devices such as web cameras or videophones to provide sign language or spoken language services. This is done through a remote or offsite interpreter, in order to communicate with persons with whom there is a communication barrier. It is similar to a slightly different technology called video relay service, where the parties are each located in different places. My experiences have been limited to using this mode in Medical Surgeries, and Magistrates Court.
